How to make a tasty green smoothie

It took me a while to jump on the green smoothie bandwagon. At first I was rather repulsed by the idea of drinking a ‘green’ smoothie but after considering the health benefits, I decided to give it a go. After many failed attempts at making a green smoothie that actually tasted nice, I eventually concocted a drinkable recipe which I use everyday for breakfast. Having a green smoothie in the morning before I go to work gives me an energy boost that lasts throughout the day.

The tasty green smoothie
(Serves 1)

Ingredients
1/2 cup chopped kale
1/2 kiwi fruit (skin removed)
1/2 medium-large banana
Diced cucumber (from a 4cm long piece)
1/2 cup coconut water (I use Raw C Coconut Water)
Diced ginger (Too much ginger can be overpowering so start with a tiny bit (the size of a 5 cent piece) and add more according to taste).
3 cubes ice

Method
Blend all ingredients until smooth, pour into a glass, enjoy.

Tip
Try adding a pinch of chia seeds.
If this is your first green smoothie, try using a whole banana or a whole kiwi fruit if you need the smoothie to be sweeter. This will also make it a bit thicker too.
The great thing about this recipe is that it uses 1/2 quantities so if you are making smoothies for two, you can use a whole banana and kiwi fruit and there is no wastage.
If you’re stretched for time in the mornings, prepare the night before by placing solid ingredients in a snap lock bag and leave in the fridge, ready to blend in the morning.
