The Rice Den
The Rice Den brings authentic Cantonese Cuisine with a modern twist to North Sydney.
With a new fitout located just around the corner from St Leonards station, The Rice Den is a new hotspot for Sydney foodies offering lunch and dinner menus with a focus on farm to table food, unique craft beers and cocktails with Cantonese flavours.
The interiors are a fusion of old Canton, contemporary and industrial elements, featuring colourful Chinoiserie wallpapers, bamboo, aged timbers, concrete flooring and blue brick walls. Open shelves display decorative elements including Asian pottery and The Rice Den’s branded sauces and teas, creating a homely, intimate and old Canton setting.
Head chefs Nelson Cheng and Roy Chan are passionate about creating authentic Cantonese food with a creative flair. Inspired by their mothers’ and grandmothers’ recipes, Cheng and Chan present a menu of traditional Cantonese dishes with their own unique interpretation.
For starters, the Handmade Cheong Fun with sesame and hoisin sauce is a must-have and stand-out mains include Slow Braised Chu-Hou Beef Cheek with kohlrabi, baby carrot and corn and Canton Style BBQ Pork Neck with molasses and honey glaze. The Ovaltine Panna cotta will transport you back to days at the school tuck-shop while the French Toast with dulce de leche, peanut crumble and mascarpone will have you wanting more regardless of how full you may feel.
